Special Saturdays
In an ongoing effort to enhance service during the tax season, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced special Saturday hours for the next four months at specific Taxpayer Assistance Centers (TACs) nationwide.
These special Saturday openings will occur from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 24, March 16, April 13, and May 18. Dozens of TACs across various states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico will participate in this four-month event, and appointments will not be required.
Currently, over 50 locations are set to be open on Feb. 24, with more than 70 offices scheduled for the March 16 event. Taxpayers are encouraged to visit participating TACs during these special Saturday hours.
"We are committed to providing the best service possible for taxpayers. These Saturday hours aim to assist those with busy weekday schedules by offering help at a more convenient time," said IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel. "Funding from the Inflation Reduction Act has allowed us to expand our services, tools, and resources for hard-working taxpayers, including these special Saturday openings."
Taxpayers are advised to check IRS.gov for information on these special openings before visiting an office. Online resources such as the Interactive Tax Assistant tool may provide answers to questions or resolve tax concerns without the need to visit an office.
At TACs, taxpayers can receive in-person assistance from IRS employees. While appointments are typically required during regular hours, individuals can walk in for all services offered at an office during these Saturday hours, except for making cash payments. To schedule an appointment during regular hours, call 844-545-5640.
Taxpayers should bring the following documents when visiting these offices:
Current government-issued photo identification.
Social Security numbers or Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs) for themselves and all household members, including spouses and dependents (if applicable).
Any IRS letters or notices received and related documents.
For identity verification services, taxpayers will need two forms of identification and, if applicable, a copy of the tax return for the relevant year.
During the visit, IRS staff may also request the following information:
A current mailing address.
Proof of bank account information included on a tax return for direct deposit of payments or refunds.
Many TACs have extended office hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays until April 16. Individuals can check if nearby TACs are offering extended hours by visiting IRS.gov/taclocator.
While tax return preparation is not available at IRS TACs, information will be provided about local free tax preparation options, including Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) or Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) sites, AARP Tax-Aide sites, and IRS Free File options for eligible individuals or families. Additionally, MilTax, a Department of Defense program, offers free return preparation software and electronic filing for military members and some veterans.
